Costco broke ground recently on its future Cedar Park location, and at least two familiar national chains will be joining the warehouse retailer.

In-N-Out Burger and BJ's Brewhouse will each open stores next to the new Costco, which is expected to open by late 2013 to early 2014, Cedar Park Mayor Matt Powell confirmed on June 7. Costco began clearing space at the northwest corner of Toll 183A and FM 1431 where the 153,700-square-foot warehouse chain will soon be built.

An additional 200,000 square feet of space is also being cleared for retail. Combined, the new development is expected to generate $38 million in commercial value, Cedar Park Economic Development Director Phil Brewer said previously.

Powell, a California native, expressed his personal excitement over the second Austin-area In-N-Out Burger coming to Cedar Park.

"We talk about Costco being destination retail, but In-N-Out [Burger] is basically destination retail," he said. "It's something people will get on the road for and plan part of their day to go out there."

Powell showed similar enthusiasm for the announcement that BJ's Brewhouse will open its fourth Austin-area location in Cedar Park. He originally pushed for the concept to come to the 1890 Ranch shopping center.

"It's such a successful, consistent concept," Powell said. "It's an upscale feel but reasonably priced. They're going to have some long lines."
