After the first week of filings for three local elections, most incumbents have filed their application to be placed on the ballot in May. So far, two challengers are also in the running in for the Leander ISD board of trustees and Leander City Council.
All three Leander ISD school board trustees have filed to run for re-election, including President Pamela Waggoner, Secretary Grace Barber-Jordan and Vice President Russell Bundy in places 3, 4 and 5, respectively. Challenger Jim MacKay, a regional sales manager in the law enforcement industry and a firefighter with the Texas Air National Guard, filed for Place 3.
In Leander, where council seats 1, 3, and 5 are open, two candidates have filed: Place 5 incumbent Jason Dishongh, and Jerry Perez for Place 3, currently held by Simon Garcia.
In Cedar Park, Stephen Thomas, Lyle Grimes and Jon Lux have submitted their applications for City Council places 1, 3, and 5, respectively. No other residents have applied, according to the city secretary.
The final day to submit an application to run for any open position is March 1 at 5 p.m.
