Pflugerville City Council welcomed its newest member Nov. 19 when Omar Pea was sworn into office at a public ceremony at the Pflugerville Justice Center.
Pea took over the Place 3 seat previously held by Darelle White, who did not seek re-election. Pea won the Nov. 6 election by taking more than 56 percent of the vote in a three-person race against opponents Tom Anker and David Prout.
"There is a lot of work to do and a lot coming up that we are going to have to work on," Pea said.
Pea is a business development group leader for IBM and also serves as chairman of the Pflugerville Economic Development Corp.—a position he plans to retain as he serves on the council. The PCDC works to secure development deals with companies in Pflugerville by negotiating incentive packages and tax deals.
"I have already had a good relationship with the City Council," Pea said. "The City Council has done a great job."
Incumbent Mayor Pro Tem Victor Gonzales was also sworn in at the Nov. 19 ceremony. Gonzales ran unopposed for the Place 5 seat.
