Members of the community took tours Nov. 10 of the newly completed North Austin Community Recreation Center, which is scheduled to open to the public Dec. 1.

The center, located at 1000 W. Rundberg Lane, was built in partnership with the City of Austin and YMCA of Austin. Nonmembers will be able to access a community garden, rent out the community room for neighborhood meetings and other events, and get homework help at the teen center.

For members, the facility has a half-court basketball and volleyball court, 28 cardio machines, a four-lane lap pool, a heated instructional pool, classes for yoga, weight machines and a child watch center.

Construction began on the 37,000-square-foot facility in October 2011, and it replaces the North Park YMCA, 9616 N. Lamar Blvd., which has already closed.
