Two new soccer complexes are being built in the Leander and Cedar Park areas to accommodate the area's growing population and interest in the sport.
Tim Medina and Darren Brown, business partners for SoccerZone South Austin and Austin Sports Arena, plan to further their entrepreneurial collaboration with plans for their newest facility, SoccerZone Lakeline. The facility, which will include two outdoor and two indoor turf fields as well as an arcade, TVs, party rooms, an Upper Deck Sports Bar and a workout room, is designed to provide an entertaining sports experience for players and spectators of all ages, Brown said.
"In this day and age, it's very easy to sit on the couch," he said. "We are offering a way for people to stay active, stay in shape and have fun doing it."
SoccerZone Lakeline is scheduled to open in October.
Meanwhile, Justin Sharrock has started plans for his new outdoor soccer facility, Northwest Soccer Club.
"It has always been my dream," Sharrock said regarding his plans.
With a large range of options available for young athletes, Sharrock said his project focuses mainly on the adult crowd, although he also intends on offering summer youth camps and programs. Demand for the sport will be a large factor, he said.
Differing from other sports complexes, Sharrock said he strives to create a soccer club that thrives off of a strong sense of community. In the long term, he also hopes to add a clubhouse and food venues, Sharrock said.
Northwest Soccer Club is scheduled to open by late July.
