TopGolf, an international chain of large golf entertainment complexes, announced April 18 that it will open its first location in Austin—its third in Texas—in late 2012. The complex is planned for 11301 Burnet Road near The Domain in Northwest Austin.

The announcement was made through the company's Twitter account @TopGolfUSA.

The company's most recent complex to open in Texas was its Allen location that opened last spring. The Allen complex features more than 65,000 square feet of golf space, including 94 hitting bays, as well as a full-size restaurant, rooftop terrace, fire pits, gaming areas and more. TopGolf's first Texas location—in Dallas—is the largest of the company's U.S. locations.

TopGolf utilizes golf ball identification technology that tells its players how far the ball traveled and also keeps score. Players stand in hitting bays and aim into a field of 10 targets that continuously scan for balls.

TopGolf currently operates three locations in the United Kingdom and four locations in the United States.
