Hays County officially opened its Veterans Resource Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Feb. 28 at the county courthouse in San Marcos.

Hays County Veteran Services Officer and San Marcos City Council member Jude Prather said at the ceremony that one of the goals of the center is to make the job-seeking process easier for veterans.

To that end, the center has acquired two older county computers that can be used for job searches. Prather said the computers were acquired at no cost to taxpayers.

The Hays County Veteran Services Office is open to veterans from any branch of the military. The office is on the second floor of the courthouse, 111 E. San Antonio St.

Officials said the center is meant to be used as a resource by veterans and their dependents to ensure they receive the services they are entitled to for their time in the military.

Those services include help filling out forms for medical and other assistance, and help replacing missing paperwork and medals. The office also offers free transportation to the Audie Murphy Veterans Affairs Hospital in San Antonio from Tuesday through Thursday of each week.
