The state already offers the property tax exemption to veterans who are labeled as 100 percent disabled as a result of combat injuries or other service-related causes. As of Jan. 1, the exemption was extended to apply to spouses after the death of their military husband or wife.

Another law will require Texas voters to present valid photo identification before casting their ballots, but that law is currently on hold until the Justice Department completes its review of the provision to ensure it does not violate minority voting rights under the Voting Rights Act.

And a third bill, Senate Bill 1107, requires all college students to obtain a meningitis vaccination shot within the last five years and at least 10 days before the first day of class.
