Harwood has 12 years of experience in the district and previously worked as a fifth grade teacher at Walnut Springs Elementary before transitioning to a districtwide support role as an instructional technology specialist, NBISD said in a news release.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to return to New Braunfels ISD in this new role,” Harwood said. “NBISD is where my heart has always been, and I could not be more excited to serve the students, staff, parents and community members of this exceptional district.”
The backstory
NBISD said Harwood’s career spans across various areas, including education, technology and education. She also has experience as a marketing and social media consultant for local businesses, which gave her experience in web design, digital marketing, blogging and completing social media campaigns. Most recently she worked with Kinetix Technologies to assist in client success, public speaking and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
According to the district, Harwood received her Master of Arts in education in 2012 and her undergraduate degree in 2007 from The University of Texas at San Antonio. A closer look
The district intends for Harwood to utilize her previous work experience to promote positive public relations between the school district and the community.
“We are glad to welcome Michelle back to our team at New Braunfels ISD,” Chief Officer of Communications and Technology Matt Jones said. “I have full confidence in her ability to lead our communications efforts, and we eagerly anticipate the positive impact Michelle and her team will make as we continue to strengthen our connections between our district and the community.”
Harwood resides in New Braunfels with her husband, Matt, and daughter, Reece, who attends school in NBISD. The district’s former director of communications, Rebecca Villarreal, remains in the district and has transitioned to a new role dealing with bond construction, according to NBISD.
