The Comal ISD board of trustees recognized 16 student scholars from across the district during its regular meeting Nov. 17. Three National Merit semifinalists and 14 National Merit Commended Scholars were acknowledged based on their performance on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying exam with one student earning both recognitions.

Of the 1.5 million students who took the qualifying exam,16,000 qualified as semifinalists, according to the district. Three students from Comal ISD qualified as semifinalists this year, including Noah Bliss from Davenport High School, who is also a National Merit Commended student; Joshua Butler; and Mason Mock from Smithson Valley High School.

In addition, more than two-thirds of students with the highest scores receive letters of commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise. This year, CISD has 14 National Merit Commended students, according to the district.
