A project spearheaded by Comal ISD junior Abigail Redin provided thousands of pairs of shoes to those in need.
Redin, who attends Smithson Valley High School, initiated the undertaking as her spring Parent Teacher Student Association service project. Her vision soon spread to six other CISD campuses. The collective effort led to the donation of 2,750 pairs of shoes that will benefit nonprofit organization Soles4Souls. The donation was made Feb. 25.
“We are proud of what Abigail has accomplished with this shoe drive,” CISD Superintendent Andrew Kim said in a statement. “She and her fellow student leaders exemplify how capable kids are when given the opportunity.”
Redin was recognized for her leadership, determination and devotion when she was named the student of the year by the Comal ISD Council of PTAs at the organization’s Founder’s Day celebration Feb. 21.
“This shoe drive was the perfect example of how campus PTSA units can work together,” Shirley Koop, president of the Comal ISD Council of PTAs, said in a news release. “PTSA offers great opportunities for students to become leaders. We are proud of all of the students who lead this effort to make a difference.”
