The new year will mean the end of a seven-year run for one New Braunfels downtown staple that opened its doors in December 2016—The Downtowner Bar & Kitchen.

The gist

The downtown restaurant opened in 2016. Owner Chad Niland said a new business is looking to fill the space and open up as soon as they can, and that they intend to keep some of the current employees.

“We ran our course, it didn't work out the way we wanted to. We held on to it as long as we could, but it was time to move on,” Niland said. “We wish our luck to the people moving in, and we love our customers, and we'll miss them. Great times, good adventures ... we enjoyed every second of it.”

The last day of business will be Dec. 31.
