As the new year approaches, here is a look back at developments that happened over the course of 2023, with a few continuing throughout 2024.

1. River Ranch County Park brings outdoor space, amenities to Williamson County

Williamson County opened River Ranch County Park to the public on July 22, after several years of planning, preparation and construction.

Located at 194 Reveille Way, Liberty Hill, the park spans over 1,354 acres offering a mixture of trails, green pasture, wildlife and access to the South Fork San Gabriel River toward the northeastern corner.

2. Design on Leander Municipal Athletic Complex begins; city eyeing 2025 opening


Leander City Council approved Concept B as the design layout for the Leander Municipal Athletic Complex at the South San Gabriel River Park in mid-May.

Located along the north bank of the South San Gabriel River northeast of the 183A Toll bridge, the 77-acre complex is anticipated to have six fields for girls softball; multipurpose fields for soccer, lacrosse, cricket and rugby; nature areas; picnic pavilions; and substantial parking. Concept B will offer more parking space and additional multipurpose fields.

3. City nears construction start for Leander Senior Activity Center

Design for the $6.5 million Leander Senior Activity Center was about 90% complete as of early April.


Construction is projected to begin in late 2023 or early 2024 and last until summer 2025, officials said.

4. Yellow House Foundation begins construction on new building in Leander

The Yellow House Foundation held its groundbreaking ceremony for its new building in Leander on June 21.

Located at 804 Leander Drive, Leander, the organization’s new building will be larger in size, spanning over 6,000 square feet; allow Yellow House Foundation to meet the need for services and be a bigger resource to young adults; and have room on the property to expand in the future. This new building will be the YHF’s permanent location.


5. Construction on multifamily portion of Leander’s Crystal Village to finish next fall

An emerging apartment complex in the mixed-use development Crystal Village is expected to reach completion in fall 2024, with work on the restaurant and retail components happening concurrently.

Called The Evergrove, the new apartment complex sits on 15 acres and will have just under 350 units.
