Design for the $6.5 million Leander Senior Activity Center was about 90% complete as of early April.

Construction is projected to begin in late 2023 or early 2024 and last until summer 2025, officials said.

A 2011 needs assessment determined a senior activity center was a medium priority for the community. In 2013, an interim center—run by Opportunities for Williamson and Burnet Counties—opened on Bagdad Road, officials said.

Funding for the permanent center was included in the May 2016 bond.

Amenities at the Senior Activity Center will include a lobby with a seating area and fireplace; a library with a coffee cafe; a game room and large-screen TV; an activities room; a multipurpose hall; a fitness center; a commercial kitchen; and special-use offices and clinics.

Though its address has not yet been set up with the postal service, the new activity center will likely be located at 611 Municipal Drive, Leander, according to city officials.
