Adam and Kent Lajaunie said they grew up loving Superman, the X-Men and other heroes.
Living in Kingwood, Texas, the brothers had to beg their mother to take them to the comic store 30 miles from home, they said.
But Cedar Park residents have a closer location to check out favorite comics and collectibles—Titan Moon Comics, which Kent and Adam and Adam’s wife, Amanda, opened in June 2014.
Titan Moon offers new and vintage comics, action figures, collectibles and game supplies. Kent and Adam said the growth of fandoms—people who enjoy comic, gaming, movie or television series—has helped Titan Moon grow.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better community to open [in],” Kent said.
Kent and Adam said the store attracts men and women of all ages, including middle school-age boys who enjoy “The Flash” TV show, high school-age girls who love Japanese comics, and fathers in their 30s who enjoy talking about their favorite heroes. One retired resident stops by occasionally, and he sold the Lajaunies his collection of “Looney Tunes” comic books that he bought in the 1940s, which is considered the golden age of comics, Kent said.
The store hosts tournaments on Wednesday and Friday evenings for games such as Magic: The Gathering, Dice Masters and Dungeons and Dragons.
Fans can also request, purchase or trade Japanese comics, game collectibles, or memorabilia based on television series such as “Firefly,” “The Walking Dead” or Japanese anime stories, they said.
Adam said the Lajaunie family hopes to expand the store or open a new location.
“We’re doing better than I projected,” Adam said. “The growth is amazing out here in the Cedar Park area. … So I can only see it going up in the next few years.”
