The Lake Travis Community Library District launched a fundraiser for the creation of a new library in Spicewood off Hwy. 71, according to a news release.

In a nutshell

In January, the district purchased the 5,000-square-foot property at 21209 Hwy. 71, the former location of Pizzeria Casa Nostra.

The $1 million fundraising goal will support renovation efforts to transform the building into a full-service community library by mid- to late 2024.

While the library was originally slated to open in late 2023, the project has met unexpected delays, and construction has yet to begin, Assistant Library Director Raj Kamat said.

Put in perspective

The Lake Travis Community Library District only has one branch location in Lakeway.

Due to the popularity of its online services, the district recognized the need for a second library to serve neighboring areas, such as Bee Creek, Briarcliff, Rough Hollow, Travis Settlement and West Cypress Hills, according to the release.

The overview

The new library, named Lake Travis Community Library West, will include:
  • Access to materials for all ages, including books, audiobooks and DVDs
  • Programming, such as story times, book clubs, lectures and technology classes
  • Public computers, Wi-Fi access and printers
  • Notary services
Get involved

Residents who contribute a donation ranging from $1,000-$150,000 can choose from a variety of naming opportunities within the new library. Available display locations include the director’s office, the meeting room, book stacks and more.

“Donations can be made on behalf of a group, in honor of a loved one, or by families and individuals,” Kamat said in the release. “These naming opportunities are a great way to showcase our community’s contributions and become a lasting part of our new library.”
