Lakeway City Council will meet for a special meeting April 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Lakeway City Hall to discuss pending legislation at the Texas Legislature and to discuss personnel matters regarding city staff.

A proposed resolution concerning bills before the Legislature is expected to ask council members to officially support Senate Bill 646 and its companion bill House Bill 1803, according to city documents. Those bills would require a city that is planning to purchase a property with the intent of converting it into housing for individuals experiencing homelessness to first receive approval from the county Commissioners Court in which the property is located.

The resolution also calls for the council to officially oppose a slate of legislation, including eight bills having to do with sales and tax revenue of cities that adopt budgets deemed to have defunded municipal police departments.

A complete list of legislation mentioned by the council resolution can be found on the Lakeway website.

In other business, council members will consider an ordinance to update the city code to bring it in compliance with state law and to correct other language considered ambiguous or inconsistent with city policy, according to council documents.

Notable updates suggested by the ordinance address the at-will status of employees and the fact that city employees, except for the city manager, do not have a contract with the city for employment. The ordinance also would remove language from the city code that states the chief of police's and municipal judge’s terms of office correspond to that of the mayor.

Council members also are expected to enter executive session to further discuss the duties and responsibilities of the city manager, city attorney, police chief, municipal judges and prosecutors. Other executive session business includes discussion of economic development prospects.
