On Monday, April 8, a solar eclipse will enter totality across North America, per NASA’s website. As described by NASA, a total eclipse occurs “when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the sun,” causing a temporary darkening of the skies during the daytime.

Austin, Dallas, Waco, Killeen, Round Rock and Cedar Park are some of the Texas cities that will be experiencing the path of the total eclipse. The narrow path of the total eclipse is expected to go through the middle of Texas. A partial eclipse will be able to be seen from areas not directly in the narrow path, according to NASA.

Certain Texas areas can expect a partial eclipse around 12:15 p.m., and the totality of the eclipse begins at about 1:36 p.m., with totality lasting anywhere from one to two minutes.

NASA states individuals have to wear solar eclipse glasses to view the eclipse during its before and after phases of totality. During totality, it is safe to remove solar eclipse glasses and view it with the naked eye because there is zero light from the sun visible from underneath the moon’s covering, according to NASA.

This total eclipse will be the last one visible until 2044.
