LISD has changed its graduation format to a family-only, videotaped experience July 9-11 in Gupton Stadium in Cedar Park, according to a news release. The district had previously planned for a socially distant, limited audience format involving the entire class in Gupton before changing to a family-only format.
The decision was made in response to “recent guidance by Texas Governor Greg Abbott,” the July 1 release said.
Under the new format, no tickets will be required. Each graduate may bring up to eight family members in up to two vehicles. They will be directed to designated parking areas based on their graduation time. Officials ask graduates to arrive on time to avoid traffic jams.
Face coverings must be worn by everyone the moment they exit their vehicles. After a health screening, groups will move toward the stage while maintaining social distancing.
A personalized video of each graduate receiving their diploma will be provided by LISD.
The two graduation start times on each day have also been moved further apart. The new schedule is as follows.
- July 9: Cedar Park High School, 8 a.m.-noon; Vandegrift HS, 6-10 p.m.
- July 10: Leander HS, 8 a.m.-noon; Rouse High School: 6-10 p.m.
- July 11: Vista Ridge HS, 8 a.m.-noon; Glenn HS, 6-10 p.m.
The commencements were originally scheduled May 28-30 at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park before being postponed May 1 due to coronavirus concerns.
More details will be released the week of July 6, according to the release.
