At St. Michael’s Catholic Academy, 3000 Barton Creek Blvd., Austin, art students in March 24 participated in The Memory Project, a campaign in which students drew portraits of Ukrainian children based on photos.
“The children [our students] were privileged to draw have been abandoned, orphaned by armed conflict, abused or neglected,” visual art teacher Kami Land said in a statement. “Our students attempt to provide a special memory, pay tribute to heritage and aid in the formation of a positive self-image.”
The project informs of world issues, and students hope the portraits will shed light on their subjects’ lives, Director of Communications Laura Duggan said.
