Senior AP English teacher Melissa Dupre was named Eanes ISD educator of the year at the district’s employee recognition and retiree dinner May 5.
Communication Director Claudia McWhorter said in a news release Dupre has been teaching at Westlake High School for 10 years. In addition to teaching AP English, Dupre works on the school’s Social Emotional Learning, or SEL, committee, the Grade Point Average, or GPA, committee and is a student council sponsor, the release said.
Dupre has been teaching for a total of 23 years, McWhorter said.
“Melissa [Dupre] helps make Westlake a better place for everyone,” WLHS Principal John Carter said in the release. “She is passionate about educating our students, not just about the curriculum, but about life. She cares about the health of the individuals at Westlake, and works tirelessly to reduce stress in the learning environment.”
McWhorter said Dupre spearheaded the SEL focus on campus and initiated the Challenge Success program, which centers on creating a more balanced and academically fulfilling life for students.
“My students are in control of their own learning, and they consistently exceed my expectations,” Dupre said in her application for educator of the year. “My job has shifted from distributing content and confirming right and wrong answers to encouraging and challenging my students to think as deeply and completely as possible.”
Educators of the year were also named in each of the eight other campuses in EISD.
