From billboard concerns to local school district updates, here are five of the top-read stories across the Lake Travis and Westlake areas in August.

1. Billboard on Bee Caves Road receives resident complaints, city violation notice

A billboard placed near the intersection of Bee Caves Road and River Hills Road has received a notice of violation from the city of Austin following local resident complaints.

The billboard, located at 106 River Hills Road, is within the city of Austin’s extraterritorial jurisdiction. It currently displays an advertisement for the Cicero Institute.

If the party responsible for the billboard does not comply within 14 days of the city’s July 30 violation notice, the city may take enforcement action, an Austin Development Services Department representative said.

2. Eanes ISD selects consulting firm JG Consulting for superintendent search process

Eanes ISD is on the search for a new superintendent, and a lone finalist could be named later this fall.

The board of trustees selected JG Consulting to guide the district in the search during a special meeting Aug. 5.


The firm will assist with community engagement efforts, which include in-person meetings and anonymous surveys. The efforts will help the firm form a leadership profile, which Guerra said is essentially the rubric for the board to refer to.

3. Lake Travis ISD adopts 2025-26 budget with $4.2 million shortfall

The Lake Travis ISD board of trustees adopted the district's operating budget for the fiscal year Aug. 20, including nearly $5 million in additional state aid but a remaining $4.2 million budget shortfall.


The adopted tax rate of $1.0397—consisting of $0.7122 for Maintenance & Operations and $0.3275 for Interest & Sinking—is the lowest tax rate in LTISD history, according to agenda documents.

4. City of Lakeway rejects Lakeway Heights new condominium plan

Developers of Lakeway Heights were denied their request to change their development to a condominium regime in a 6-1 vote by Lakeway City Council on Aug. 18, with council member Christopher Forton voting against the denial.


Lakeway Heights is located at 15115 Kollmeyer Drive, next to Lake Travis Elementary. The development was previously proposed to include 82 single-family detached units on 13.4 acres of land.

At Lakeway City Council’s Aug. 18 meeting, developers requested a modification to their existing PUD, changing 82 individual lots to a “condominium regime,” which would feature a single lot, according to city documents.

5. 71% increase in Westlake home sales for June, data shows


Home sales were up for most areas of the Lake Travis-Westlake market in June compared to the previous year, data from Unlock MLS shows.

The Westlake area in ZIP code 78746 experienced the highest year-over-year change in home sales with a 71.4% increase. Home sales also increased 66.7% for the Barton Creek area, with 33.3% for the Riverplace area and 22.7% for the Steiner Ranch area.
