Construction will continue on the Georgetown Square as improvements are being made to the sidewalks in downtown Georgetown that will create better accessibility and improve safety for pedestrians, according to city officials.

The outside lane going northbound on Austin Avenue will be closed at Seventh and Eighth streets through mid- to late November as the sidewalk accessibility improvement project continues on the Georgetown Square. All other lanes will remain open.

The sidewalks will also be closed at the intersection of Austin Avenue and Seventh and Eighth streets during construction, as the city installs more accessible sidewalk ramps on the northeast corner of Seventh Street and the southeast corner of Eighth Street.

The city hopes to improve accessibility at these intersections and make it safer for pedestrians to cross with new ramps and bulb-out curb extensions that will shorten crossing distances and provide additional pedestrian space.

These improvements are part of an ongoing project that was funded through revenue from a 2015 transportation bond.
