Even some of the littlest Georgetown ISD students were able to start the school year in a new building: the GISD Early Learning Center.

What you need to know

The district held a grand opening for the ELC, a district pre-school offering care during regular school days for the children of district employees and students, on Nov 12.

Care is available to children aged six weeks to five years old, ELC Coordinator Elisabeth Thomison said.

The facility is part of the $97 million bond project to construct the Future Ready Complex, which houses many of GISD's career and technical education programs.

What they're saying

Addressing district employees and community members ahead of the opening, Thomison spoke to the future of the center and the importance of providing care for young children of students and employees.

"This school is much more than just a building," Thomison said. "It's a space where dreams will be nurtured, challenges will be overcome and lifelong friendships will be formed. This is where young minds will grow, develop and discover the incredible potential within them."

According to the district, enrollment for the ELC is currently waitlist only. GISD employees interested in enrolling their child at the ELC can apply to join the waitlist here.
