Georgetown ISD Superintendent Fred Brent has been authorized to negotiate and execute a contract to purchase about 90 acres of land in the southwest quadrant of the district for a future school site.

The GISD board gave its approval June 17.

“Based on our continuing demographic studies that are being done in the district, it is clear that GISD needs to acquire some land in the southwest quadrant of our district to serve the population growth in that area,” said David Biesheuvel, the GISD executive director of Construction and Development.

Biesheuvel said the district has identified the land and would like to continue to move forward toward a signed contract for the purchase of the land.

The board will make the final approval on the purchase of the land once due diligence is completed, Biesheuvel said. The June 17 approval will allow the district to begin a feasibility study, he said.
