Wagner Middle School students will return from Thanksgiving break and begin attending classes at their new campus next week after nearly a whole semester at a former elementary school, Georgetown ISD announced Monday morning. The new campus, originally supposed to open in time for the first day of school this fall, was delayed by several months. But on Monday, Nov. 27, students will begin the school day at the site of the old Williamson Elementary School at 507 E. University Avenue, where they will get on a bus and be transported to the new Wagner Middle School campus at 1621 Rockride Lane. Upon their arrival at their new school, students will be greeted by a crowd and attend a pep rally celebration before heading to their first classes in the new Wagner building. An official grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting event will be held on Dec. 20, according to a district statement. The $55 million new Wagner Middle School facility is one part of a larger $160.6 million bond package passed by Georgetown voters in November 2015. The new campus features an open design concept and collaboration space.
