1. Austin Avenue bridges


The Texas Department of Transportation continues to review options for repairing the Austin Avenue bridges, which are structurally sufficient but are expected to eventually be unsafe for traffic due to deterioration. Once TxDOT’s review is complete, Georgetown transportation officials will make recommendations to City Council on how to best upgrade the bridges.

2. Williams Drive corridor


Georgetown City Council approved a series of resolutions Jan. 9 to allow city transportation officials to apply for funding for improvements to the Williams Drive corridor in the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 2019-22 Transportation Improvement Program. Williams Drive corridor projects include intersection improvements at Lakeway Drive and Wildwood Drive, access improvements at I-35 and programming for a traffic-management center

3. Southwest Bypass


Construction on the north segment, which will add a roadway connection between Hwy. 29 and Leander Road, is about 90 percent complete, including the near-completion of a bridge across the San Gabriel River. The new roadway will eventually extend from D.B. Wood Road to I-35. Work is being completed in segments with joint oversight by Georgetown and Williamson County.

Timeline: north segment: 2016-spring 2018; south segment: 2017-early 2018
Cost: $18.3 million for north segment; $19.8 million for south segment

4. Hwy. 29 repaving


Repaving work continues on Hwy. 29/University Avenue between I-35 and Inner Loop. TxDOT is overseeing the project that will repave all lanes of the roadway. Intermittent single-lane closures are anticipated during construction.

5. Inner Loop improvements


Work on Inner Loop will widen portions of the road in order to add right-turn and left-turn lanes at the intersections of Wilco Way and Rockride Lane as well as entrances to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter and the Williamson County Central Maintenance Facility.

6. FM 1460 widening


TxDOT continues to oversee construction on the roadway north of Inner Loop. Utility relocations associated with the project have been completed, according to Georgetown transportation officials. When finished, the project will widen and realign FM 1460 from Quail Valley Road in Georgetown to north of University Boulevard in Round Rock.
