Could Georgetown’s city logo double as the city’s official flag? Mayor Dale Ross submitted the idea as a discussion item Tuesday during a City Council meeting. Georgetown does not have an official flag, but the mayor said he thinks the community would be well served by adopting a flag design that would place the city’s logo in the center of a white background. “I think this is our brand,” Ross said of the city’s logo. “I think that would look lovely on a white background.” Georgetown’s logo—which was adopted by the city in 2005 and be can found today on city buildings, vehicles and even water towers—includes the letter G written in stylized script next to the city’s name and year of establishment written in block-letter text. The logo’s colors are gold and silver, officially Pantone 464 and Pantone 444, respectively. Council members directed the city’s communications staff to develop a way for residents to offer their opinions before any formal decisions are considered. Ross said he would “not be interested in having a contest or anything too exotic” if City Council was to decide to move forward with developing a flag, but he supported having Georgetown residents provide input. In January 2017, the city of Cedar Park pulled down its new flag about one month after it was officially unveiled after the flag's design drew social media scorn from residents. The design featured blue and green rectangles with a white line and four Xs running down the center.
