The 111 schools received a “met standard” rating from the TEA. To obtain the grade, schools are measured by student achievement, student progress, closing performance gaps, and postsecondary readiness. Eight schools did not achieve the met standard rating. AISD Superintendent Paul Cruz, along with board of trustees President Gina Hinojosa and trustee Ann Teich spoke about the results Aug. 7 at a news conference at Lyndon B. Johnson Early College High School. "We all know, and I will be the first one to say, that we have more work to do," Cruz said. On a districtwide scale, AISD received scores on the four accountability measurements that exceeded the target scores. The district's students surpassed the student achievement index target by 19 points, the student progress index target by 19 points, the closing performance gaps index target by 11 points, and the postsecondary readiness index target by 21 points, according to the results. Dobie, Martin and Mendez middle schools, and Brooke, Govalle, Norman, Rodriguez and Widen elementary schools received an “improvement required” rating. The district is evaluating the results of all schools to determine if it will appeal the improvement required ratings, according to AISD. All high schools, including Eastside Memorial High School and Travis High School, received a met standard rating. The two high schools, along with Lyndon B. Johnson Early College High School and Ridgetop Elementary School, had received improvement required ratings in 2014. Final accountability ratings are released in November, after the appeals time period ends.
