Georgetown ISD is seeking input from the community to help determine the preferred skills and characteristics of a Georgetown graduate. The district will hold a series of education summits where the public is invited to offer opinions to help the GISD leaders create a profile that addresses the learning needs of the districts students. "What are we trying to produce?" Superintendent Fred Brent said during the GISD board of trustees meeting Jan. 20. "If we do all these things and we believe all of these things then this is our mission and our vision." The education summits are part of the strategic plan the board adopted in June that is aimed at maintaining core values and vision as well as being aware of the 21st century demands. Parents, students, teachers, business leaders and community members are welcome to attend. The meetings are Feb. 12 from 10-11:30 a.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. at the Georgetown Community Center, 445 E. Morrow St., and Feb. 19 from 6-7:30 p.m. at East View High School, 4490 E. University Ave. The district will gather more input after the summits through focus groups representing various stakeholders as well as an online survey, which will be open for feedback Feb. 23-26. Following this process, a strategic design team will review the data and submit it to district leaders to prepare a custom design for instruction. "If we are a learning organization, we are producing something," Brent said. "It's a very important process to embark on so that we will know as a learning organization what are we trying to produce? That will shape where we go as a district instructionally speaking, and that will have an impact on how we design schools in the future."
