Austin Elite Rugby announced Thursday that Round Rock will be their home for the 2018 season. The team will play all four of its Major League Rugby home games at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex, located in Old Settlers Park at 2001 N. Kenney Fort Blvd. “We are honored to have Austin Elite Rugby play here,” Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan said at a press conference Thursday afternoon. The first home game will be May 3 against NOLA Gold. Austin Elite Rugby will also play teams from Utah, Seattle and San Diego in Round Rock. All of the games will be broadcast live on CBS Sports, AT&T and ESPN +.  “We are excited to kick off our inaugural Major League Rugby season at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex,” Austin Elite Rugby President/Owner Richard Osborn said. “The city of Round Rock has been incredible to work with thus far. With Round Rock’s growing community of rugby clubs and fans, we look forward to entertaining the region with world-class play and attracting new fans in the process.” After the Round Rock Express, Austin Elite Rugby is the second professional sports team to make its home in Round Rock. This year will be the inaugural year for Major League Rugby, which includes seven teams across the country. “We are excited to see professional rugby being played in the Sports Capital of Texas, and we look forward to broadcasting the inaugural Major League Rugby season from Round Rock Multipurpose Complex,” commented MLR Commissioner Dean Howes. There are currently 30 contracted players on the team. One of the players, David Lemasters, was born in Round Rock. Other players come to Central Texas from all over the world.
