Jimmy Flannigan leads incumbent Don Zimmerman in political donations so far this election season, according to the latest round of campaign finance reports due to election officials Tuesday.
Every opposed candidate in the Nov. 8 election must file a contributions and expenditures report 30 days before the election. This latest round of reports, the first mandated disclosure since this summer, covers all financials from July 1 to Sept. 29, according to the Texas Ethics Commission.
Here is how much donation money each candidate has earned and spent for the Austin City Council District 6 election during that timeframe:
Jimmy Flannigan: $46,651.99 in contributions, $42,998.91 in expenditures
Flannigan received 428 contributions. He received maximum allowable contributions from 43 supporters, with top donors including the Texas United Automobile Workers CAP Volunteer Fund Committee, as well as the election campaigns of Travis County Commissioner Brigid Shea and U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Austin.
Don Zimmerman: $38,996.50 in contributions, $ 58,609.08 in expenditures
Zimmerman received 207 contributions. Of those, 54 were from supporters contributing the maximum amount, with top donors including the Home Builders Association of Greater Austin PAC and the Austin Apartment Association PAC.
Zimmerman also received contributions from Williamson County Commissioner Cynthia Long, who gave $100, and Travis County Commissioner Gerald Daugherty, who along with his wife gave $500.
In the District 6 race, donations are not allowed to exceed $350, according to Austin City Code.
The next campaign finance report deadline is Oct. 31, or eight days before the election.
