Starting in 2000, H-E-B spent five years seeking a store site in Leander before it purchased 140 acres of land in 2005. On July 26, 2006, the grocery retailer announced it had begun construction on the property at the northwest corner of Old FM 2243 and US 183. The new 150,000-square-foot H-E-B Plus store opened Feb. 23, 2007.
In October 2012, an H-E-B spokeswoman said the company was interested in building a second store in Leander at the southwest corner of FM 2243 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard. But in January 2013 the company announced it was no longer planning another Leander location.
