In a Feb. 2 letter to fans, Jordan Uplegger, executive director of World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play, wrote that the tournament will go on from March 24-28; however, spectator access at Austin Country Club will be “extremely limited,” and most of the spectator venues that usually dot the course will not be constructed.

The annual tournament, which brings 64 of the PGA Tour’s top golfers to Austin each year for a head-to-head competition, was cancelled entirely in 2020 after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

Uppleger did not specify in his letter how many spectators would be allowed in this year, stating only that it would be limited to “ticketed hospitality guests” and that all attendees would have to adhere to health and safety guidelines. He did not immediately respond to a request for further information from Community Impact Newspaper.

“We look forward to the day we can re-open our gates to the public and eagerly await a safe return for all spectators,” Uppleger wrote.

The tournament has been held in Austin since 2016.
