Speaking at the Austin Convention Center at 3:30 p.m., Biden will outline his plans for a "Biden cancer initiative," giving attendees a rundown on what challenges he has faced when it comes to ending cancer and how he is moving forward with his initiatives. The 47th vice president's talk is part of the festival's Connect to End Cancer series taking place Sunday. During his time as the vice president to former President Barack Obama, Biden convened sessions for the president's Cabinet, led interagency efforts and worked with Congress in the fight to end cancer. Last year, he established the National Cancer Moonshot, which works to accelerate cancer research to make more therapies available to patients, improve the ability to prevent cancer and detect it at an early stage. “We’re excited to have vice president Biden address the creative innovators and entrepreneurs that attend SXSW,” said Hugh Forrest, chief programming officer for SXSW. “His commitment and leadership is crucial at a time when the smartest minds from the worlds of technology and health care are working together to create groundbreaking new solutions in the battle to end cancer.” Biden's talk is available to all SXSW registrants.
