Tesla’s Gigafactory—the electric automaker's 10 million-square-foot headquarters in southeastern Travis County—will be expanding in 2023.
According to six Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings, plans are in the works to expand the factory over 1.7 million square feet, amounting to over $800 million.
Travis County has received some permit applications, including a cathode plant—a $260 million endeavor—a Die Shop, costing $59 million, and expansions of the existing factory, but not all plans listed with the TDLR.
According to the TDLR, construction is slated to begin as early as the end of January. However, projects filed in the TDLR are subject to change.
