For more than two decades, Outlaw Paintball has given Central Texas paintballers a place to compete, practice and spend the weekend together.
The background
Outlaw opened in 2003 and is located just east of I-35 on Grand Avenue Parkway.
Owner Debra Shaffer said the site was originally a concrete business that she and her family transitioned into a paintball facility. The 11-acre spot features four courses suitable for players of all ages and abilities.
“My son and his friends used to go to another paintball place and they spent a lot of money those weekends,” Shaffer said. “So my son and husband decided we should open up our own paintball field. Slowly but surely, we bought different things and started growing it to where eventually we shut down the concrete and made this strictly paintball.”
Fun for the family
Paintball is a competitive sport where players, in teams or individually, eliminate opponents by hitting them with paintballs. Masks are mandatory on the playing field and only paint purchased at the facility may be used. Players may rent gear at Outlaw or bring their own.

The sport is accommodating to all skill levels, and games often feature a diverse group of players, including parents with their children, Shaffer said.
The business accommodates both casual groups and dedicated professionals, who typically practice on Sunday mornings. Low-impact options are available for younger children. Anyone aged 10 and older can play at Outlaw.

Shaffer said Outlaw prioritizes family-friendly fun and safety.
“One of the challenges is setting up fields that are safe,” Shaffer said. “Our No. 1 thing is, have a good time, but be safe.”
More details
Outlaw is open on weekends only and reservations for groups of 10 or more can be made online. The air ball field is always open for general play during operating hours, and a reservation is not needed. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and drinks.

Because the only other nearby paintball facilities are in Jonestown, Manor and Dripping Springs, Shaffer said Outlaw stays busy every weekend.
Future improvements to the business include potential glow-in-the-dark night games and upcoming field updates, which are spearheaded by head referee Stephen Swope.
