Leander City Council terminated the historic Davis House renovation project at its April 20 meeting.

Located at 104 N. Brushy St., Leander, Davis House is now a city-owned property with history that dates back to the late 1890s. Davis House was a home and belonged to fiddle maker and musician Jimmie Joe Davis for 42 years before he passed away in 2004.

In 2006, the city of Leander purchased the property and used Davis House as a planning and development services office. The 123-year-old Davis House is the last original two-story house still standing in the district, according to the city.

Austin-based company Ride or Die LLC signed a lease agreement back in August 2021 to renovate Davis House to operate it as a restaurant and brewpub, city officials said.

Officials said the agreement was terminated because improvements were not made within one year of the effective date of the lease, which was Aug. 28, 2021. Currently, no further improvements on the Davis House are known.
