A 22.2-acre planned medical office development in Leander would bring medical, office and commercial space to the area north of the St. David's development and Northline.

Pointe 183 would have 90,000 square feet of commercial and retail space and 132,000 square feet of medical and professional office space, said Vincent Shaw, who represented the developer at the meeting. Pointe 183 is planned between US 183 and 183A Toll.

The neighboring St. David's development has a free-standing emergency center and a medical office building. St. David's plans to build a hospital, which is dependent on community needs.

Leander City Council approved a first reading of the zoning change for the development July 15. The second reading is scheduled for Aug. 5.

“This is a no-brainer,” Council Member Chris Czernek said before the unanimous vote.

The proposed zoning would create the Pointe 183 Minor PUD with a general commercial base zoning district. Current zoning is for planned unit development/transit-oriented development with conventional development sector zoning.

The planning and zoning commission unanimously approved the zoning change request in June.
