Although Leander ISD students have been distance learning since March 26, teachers began instructing new material April 6.

The recommended time for distance learning, as compared to traditional classroom learning, has been scaled back considerably, according to LISD. Concerns about screen time, particularly with elementary students, and about the general social and economic stress created by coronavirus concerns prompted LISD officials to scale back the scope of education.

LISD has recommended that learning plans “be mindful of the home environment, balance screen time and include physical activity as much as possible.”

On March 31, LISD trustees also changed grading for the spring semester from a letter grading system to a pass-incomplete grading system. However, according to LISD documents, “students will receive assignments with an expectation that a good-faith effort will be made to complete them."

To aid families, LISD has multiple online tools for learning and coping during isolation created by coronavirus on its Remote Learning Parent Hub page.
