Some Leander residents may now have greater access to public transportation in the area.

CapMetro expanded its pickup rideshare service in Leander after seeing increased ridership and a growing need for transportation services, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

The gist

CapMetro began providing on-demand, shared-ride shuttles to an expanded service zone in Leander on Aug. 18. The Leander pickup zone, which was expanded by 0.64 square miles in the city’s southwest corner, now features access to:
  • DaVita Leander Dialysis
  • Cedar Park Regional Emergency Center
  • Crystal Falls Crossing Apartments
  • Lakeline Apartments
  • Randall's
CapMetro ridership in Leander increased by 788% from 2020 to 2023, according to CapMetro data presented at a Leander City Council meeting in May. The expansion is expected to serve nearly 4,000 additional residents and include 55 additional trips per day, according to city of Leander documents.

The Leander pickup zone operates from 6 a.m.-7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday.

How it works

Residents living in one of CapMetro’s 11 service zones can request a ride through the Pickup by CapMetro app or by calling a pickup service center at 512-369-6200. Each ride costs $1.25, while children ages 18 and under can ride for free using the promotional code “CHILDFREE.”

The public transit agency aims to pick up residents within 15 minutes of their request, according to CapMetro information. Riders can view their estimated wait time on the app.

CapMetro has launched four new pickup zones in Austin since 2021 through Project Connect, according to the agency's website.
