The Texas Girls School, a new secondary charter school, is set to open to students in the Leander and Cedar Park area next fall.

The school will welcome around 120 sixth through ninth grade girls in its first year and expand to serve grades 10th-12th, founder and Superintendent Dana Stuart said.

The Texas Girls School will focus on science, technology, engineering and math curriculum as well as project-based learning, in which students will participate in hands-on activities, including regular field trips.

Middle school students will concentrate on computer science, and high school students will complete a state-certified career and technical education pathway in engineering foundations.

Additionally, students will hear from women across various career fields through the school's female speaker series.

The school opened applications for enrollment in October and will select students through a lottery system in March. School officials are currently working to finalize a lease for the school's expected space near The Crossover off Scottsdale Drive, Stuart said.
