The congregation at Faith Lutheran Church will host a mobile low-cost pet vaccination clinic on March 2 from 9 a.m. to noon.

In a nutshell

The pop-up clinic is part of Faith Lutheran's "God's Work. Our Hands" community service project, said Jimmy Eschberger, the church's president.

The details

For the past 40 years, the church has organized the clinic that vaccinates more than 150 pets annually.

The Bastrop Veterinary Hospital team will administer shots as pet owners drive through the line behind the church at 230 Waco St. in McDade.

Those interested can start lining up in their vehicles at 8 a.m. and should expect the process to take around 30 minutes depending on how many animals they have, Eschberger said.

"They don't need to bring anything other than their pets," Eschberger said. "They don't even need to get out of their cars."

The cost

Age restrictions will be in place for the safety of the pets. Dogs must be at least 6 months old to receive the Bordetella shots, and both dogs and cats must be at least 1 year old to receive the rabies shots.

The price of each shot includes:
  • Rabies: both dogs and cats, $16
  • Distemper: both dogs and cats, $28
  • Bordatella: dogs only, $20
  • Leukemia: cats only, $29
Notable quote

"We believe this is a great thing for our community as a whole," Eschberger said. "Some people don't have the means to do this for all of their pets, and this is an avenue to get them taken care of."
