The Bastrop Museum and Visitor Center team will soon offer a new exhibit showcasing quilts and the stories behind them.

What you need to know

The Stitched Exhibit will spotlight the evolution of quilting, ranging from the mid-1800s through today, with a special focus on the personal and communal histories accompanying them, museum spokesperson Rachel Hatch said.

Other highlights will include:
  • Displays showing traditional quilting techniques and patterns
  • Modern displays that reflect contemporary art and cultural narratives in quilting
  • Interactive displays that explain the significance of quilting in building bonds among community members
What else?

The opening night will happen during Bastrop’s First Friday in February, with a reception from 6-8 p.m.

During the reception, attendees can chat with Collections Manager Heather Bloom and take photos in front of a quilt-themed backdrop.

One more thing

A kids-focused, hands-on afternoon coinciding with the Stitched Exhibit will be offered on Feb. 8 from noon-4 p.m.

Saturday Make and Take will teach children how to make their own quilt squares, card cotton, and learn basic weaving techniques, Hatch said.

The event is available to those with a museum admission ticket, which is:
  • $5 for people 13 and older
  • Free for those 12 and younger, active military members, veterans, and museum members
