With Buda’s annual Wiener Dog Races expected to draw thousands of people to town April 29-30, the city will enforce street closures and regulate left turns near Buda City Park, where the fair will be held.
According to a city news release, San Antonio Street will be closed to through traffic, with the exception of residents who live in the neighborhood. There will be a significant amount of traffic congestion around City Park.
No left turns from Main Street on to Garison Road or from Garison Road on to Main Street from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. will be permitted on either Saturday, April 29 or Sunday, April 30 for safety reasons, the release stated.
People looking to attended the event can park for free at the north side of City Park, or north of Cabela’s and east of the Buda Post Office. A free shuttle service will be available to and from the Cabela’s parking space.
Representatives from the Buda Lion's Club confirmed First Lady of Texas Cecilia Abbott is expected to begin the first race of the day Saturday. She will be introduced by Mayor Todd Ruge. It will be Abbott's second visit to the city in two weeks. On April 18 she visited Buda for a ceremony marking the city's official entry into the Texas Main Street Program.
