Incumbent Lois Kolkhorst has claimed victory in the race to keep her seat in Texas Senate District 18, which spans portions of 18 counties. Kolkhorst said in a statement late Nov. 8 that she is humbled to be re-elected.

"I represent the greatest people in the greatest senate district in the greatest state in America," she said in an emailed statement. "I am grateful for the trust put upon me this evening and I take that trust very seriously."

As of publication, Kolkhorst led the race with 70% of votes to opponent Josh Tutt's 30% of the vote, according to the Texas Secretary of State. Kolkhorst leads the race by 80,561 votes, although only 177 of 329 precincts are reporting across District 18.

Early voting results from the Texas Secretary of State's Office indicate Republican incumbent Lois Kolkhorst is leading the race for Texas Senate District 18 with 13 of 18 applicable counties reporting early tallies.

Kolkhorst has garnered 67,029, or 80.59%, of early votes, while Democratic challenger Josh Tutt received 19.41% of early votes.

District 18 spans portions of 18 counties, including Fort Bend, Grimes, Harris, Montgomery and Waller counties, according to an election results breakdown from the secretary of state.

Kolkhorst is a native of Brenham and a small-business owner, according to her Senate profile. She served in the Texas House from 2001-14 and was elected to the Texas Senate in a special election in 2014, according to her biography. She chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services.

Tutt is a native Texan and Texas A&M University graduate with a degree in computer science, according to his campaign website, and he serves as the vice president of Pride Community Center serving the Brazos Valley region.

Following redistricting in 2020, District 18's boundaries changed, including new representation for a portion of the Magnolia and Montgomery areas, Community Impact reported.
