The AABY Foundation will be entering a new chapter as the ABBY Foundation, an acronym that stands for Animals Better By You, said Juanita Zavala, the organization's clinic coordinator.
The AABY Foundation was created in 2004 by Kay Pass, who opened a thrift store to help fund the organization’s mission of helping animals and their owners, as previously reported by Community Impact.
The nonprofit’s services—such as hosting low-cost pet vaccination events and helping people experiencing homelessness and their pets—will continue, Zavala said. The same nonprofit leaders and board members will work under the new ABBY organization.
Mayday Fairs, a Porter-based nonprofit, launched in August to support firefighters and their families who are experiencing life-altering hardship.
Founded by Maxine Cruz and Heather Probst, Mayday Fairs serves local firefighters throughout Harris and Montgomery counties. The nonprofit hosted its first fundraiser on Oct. 17 with proceeds benefiting the family of local firefighter Jesse Castillo, who recently died from stage 4 lung cancer, Probst said in an Oct. 1 email.
