Mayday Fairs, a Porter-based nonprofit, launched in August to support firefighters and their families who are experiencing life-altering hardship.
About the organization
Founded by Maxine Cruz and Heather Probst, Mayday Fairs serves local firefighters throughout Harris and Montgomery counties. The nonprofit will host its first fundraiser on Oct. 17 with proceeds benefiting the family of local firefighter Jesse Castillo, who recently died from stage 4 lung cancer, Cruz said in an Oct. 1 email.
The event
The Mayday Book Fair will be held from 4-8 p.m. at J&Co Vintage Market, located at 20360 FM 1314, Porter. Cruz said admission will be free and attendees can expect vendors, a book swap, a silent auction, and books and book-related items for sale.
"Items at the Mayday Fair booth and silent auction items will directly benefit the family," Cruz said. "There will be lots of different items from quilts, music lessons to signed Tennessee Titans memorabilia. We have something for everyone, not just the avid reader."
