Barbara Bush Library Friends launch $65K fundraising efforts for library revamp

Marking a milestone

With about 150 members, the Barbara Bush Library Friends—formerly The Cypress Creek Friends of the Library—has supported the local library through volunteering and fundraising initiatives for about 50 years. The area’s first community library opened in 1976 in what is now the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts before moving to its current location in 2002.

A lot of community members don’t realize how much the Barbara Bush Library Friends contribute to programs at the library through vital fundraising and volunteering, Branch Librarian Shane Harris said. In 2023 alone, the organization raised $30,000 for the library’s bookstore, according to a May 7 meeting bulletin.

“This [campaign] is kind of just another step in that direction to really improve the facility and create some new spaces,” Harris said.
