For nearly 30 years the Cypress Creek Foundation for the Arts and Community Enrichment has brought the northwest Houston community together through music, education and cultural experiences, Cypress Creek F.A.C.E. Executive Director Robert Schefferine said.
“When you look at the personal relationships [built], you realize that this organization means a lot to this community, and the community means a lot to the organization. That's how you make it for 30 years,” Schefferine said.
About the program
In 1997, Cypress Creek F.A.C.E. was founded to make high quality performing arts experiences accessible for communities in northwest Houston. Funded exclusively by donors and ticket purchases, Schefferine said the program provides several opportunities for local artists.
In addition to presenting nationally and internationally recognized artists within its Star-Lit! program, Cypress Creek F.A.C.E. also offers various educational opportunities.
Programs offered include:
The Promenade Series, an intimate daytime acoustic based concert experience
Free children's series performances
Summer Strings camps and educational master classes
Scholarships supporting local students pursuing the arts

The impact
Aside from encouraging passion for music, Schefferine said music supports an individual's overall wellbeing, cognitive development and reduces isolation.
As the community continues to grow, Schefferine said Cypress Creek F.A.C.E. continues to enforce its community outreach and arts accessibility initiatives throughout northwest Houston.
“We couldn't do this without the community, without them coming down and supporting and enjoying the shows, because we're trying to also bring entertainment here .. musicians and groups come here in northwest Houston, and it keeps this area special,” Schefferine said. “So the community is really important for them to come down and see these shows and be part of it and enjoy.”
Through its programs, Schefferine said the nonprofit serves 200-300 students and awards $10,000 in scholarships annually.

“As we celebrate 30 years of Cypress Creek F.A.C.E., we’re not only honoring the incredible legacy of the people and community who created and nurtured this wonderful organization, but we’re building toward an exciting future,” Schefferine said. “This season reflects everything that makes F.A.C.E. special, nationally recognized artists, meaningful arts education, and the shared experience of live performance bringing people together right here in northwest Houston.”
